Axial was founded by a team of seasoned financial services professionals with extensive investment management experience both in and outside of Asia. With strategic backing and investments from industry leaders in asset management, investment research and venture capital, Axial offers a differentiated and flexible platform to create a first-of-its-kind managed accounts experience in Asia.

Chief Executive Officer

Chris has held many senior management positions in the asset management and investment analytics industry over the past 35 years, including Head of Asia Pacific for MSCI, Head of Asia Pacific for Fidelity Investments and Asia Pacific CEO for ING Investment Management. He has developed joint ventures in China, including China Merchants Funds, during his time at ING IM and was Deputy Chairman of the joint venture for eight years. He was also head of HSBC Funds for Asia Pacific when he first arrived in Hong Kong in the mid-1990s.

Chris is a non-executive Director for AXA Insurance in Asia, a Non-executive Director for Peng Yuan Credit Ratings International Ltd and sits on several Boards and advisory groups for Monash University (Melbourne, Australia), Hong Kong Academy in Hong Kong and MegaTrust Investments in Shanghai.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Business from Monash University in Melbourne.

Jane Caire

Chief Administrative Officer and Co-Founder

Jane is an experienced financial services professional who worked as a corporate lawyer in Australia for 10 years before moving into business roles in the financial services industry in APAC, where she has been for 25 years. Most recently, she was the Head of Strategy & Corporate Development at BNY Mellon Investment Management (APAC). In prior roles, she was Regional Head of Product & Business Management at ING Investment Management (APAC), and previously served in various senior executive, corporate development and legal roles at Citigroup Asset Management, Alliance Trust PLC, Franklin Templeton, CLSA and HSBC. She has an extensive track record in setting up new licensed entities and operations and implementing business expansions and strategic alliances in numerous countries throughout Asia-Pacific, the subcontinent, as well as Switzerland and the UK.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons.) from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the South Australian Institute of Technology. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors.

Paul Hopkins

Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder

Paul is the former Head of Business Solutions of BNY Mellon Managed Investments and led the implementation of its SMA service across 10 financial institutions in 4 major Asian markets. Earlier, he served in senior roles at Barclays, including COO for the Wealth and Product Division (UK) and Head of Funds and Advisory (Singapore). He directed the build-out of Barclays research and product office and delivered its multimanager proposition from initial design to operation, raising GB£12b. Paul was also Executive Manager of BNP Paribas Asset Management (UK) and previously served in senior operating roles at National Bank of Kuwait Investment Management in the UK and Switzerland. Paul has created breakthrough asset management structures across markets and held board directorships in Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Australia and Japan for six different global fund companies. He was a founding partner in Virtuous Circle Asset Management, a London-based global macro hedge fund.

Chief Investment Officer and Co-Founder

Guy is the former Head of Investments of BNY Mellon Investment Management in Hong Kong. Earlier, he served in senior investment roles at ING Investment Management in Europe and Asia, directing portfolio management and trading teams in Asian Equities as well as Emerging Markets including China, Eastern Europe and India. He was Chief Investment Officer for ING in Mumbai, Warsaw and in its joint venture with China Merchants Bank in Shenzhen, overseeing US$25b in AuM and responsible for restructuring and managing the investment business in Mumbai, Warsaw, Sydney and Hong Kong with over 100 portfolio managers and analysts. During his time at ING, he orchestrated one of the most successful fund launches in the Netherlands, led China Merchants to be one of China’s largest asset managers, earned a 5-star Micropal rating and was named “Best International Fund Equity Manager” by the Wall Street Journal.

Guy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Polytechnic University in Eindhoven, a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from VU University in Amsterdam and an MBA from Hong Kong University.​

Chris is the Managing Director of Morningstar Investment Management Australia Limited.

Chris joined Morningstar Investment Management in 2005 as Senior Consultant, and in 2007 was promoted to head the Investment Services team. In 2013, he was named Managing Director of Morningstar Investment Management, Asia-Pacific. Chris is responsible for developing business strategy, overseeing its implementation, and working closely with senior management to deliver the best possible investment outcomes and service to clients. Chris had been Co-Managing Director of the business since 2012 and is also a member of the Asia Pacific Investment Policy Committee. Before joining Morningstar, Chris worked as Portfolio Manager at Rand Merchant Bank in South Africa for over five years and at Citibank in both London and South Africa, with responsibilities covering treasury derivatives, business development, and relationship management.

Christophe Lee

Christophe is the founder of JP Asia Partners which offers advisory services to asset & wealth management and FinTech companies. He is also a Fintech mentor at HK X Foundation. Mr. Lee has 26 years of financial service industry experience and has worked at Morgan Stanley, Sun Hung Kai Financial, Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust.

Mr. Lee played an active role is the development of the asset management industry in Hong Kong. His HKSAR government appointments include the advisory committee of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) from 2007 – 2009, and the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) – New Business Committee since March 2013. He led the working group on FSDC paper titled “The Future of Fintech in Hong Kong” published in May 2017.  Mr. Lee chaired AIMA Hong Kong (the global trade association for hedge funds) for 8 years from 2004 to 2012. He was voted by AsianInvestor Magazine as one of the “Top 25 most influential people in Asian hedge funds” and by Asia Fund Manager as one of the “Top 50 Industry Leader”.

Mr. Lee is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael Levin

Michael Levin


Mike is Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the International Wealth Management division. He is the Head of Asset Management, Asia Pacific.

Mike is responsible for developing and directing regional Asset Management strategy, including distribution, product and partnerships. He also works closely with institutions and the Private Bank in delivering Asset Management investment solutions.​ Prior to joining Credit Suisse in August 2011, Mike was the CEO of AsiaCrest Capital, a Hong Kong-based fund of hedge funds. Previously, he served as a portfolio manager at both Hite Capital and Man Group. Mike was also the co-founder of Metropolitan Venture Partners. He brings over 20 years of experience in Alternatives across both liquid and illiquid investments.

Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics, Magna Cum Laude, from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Damien Mooney

Damien is Head of Digital Wealth, Asia Pacific at BlackRock.

Previously, Damien was Head of Retail Business & Wealth Business, Asia Pacific and Chief Marketing Officer for BlackRock. In this combined role, he led the distribution businesses for retail, private banking and wealth advisory channels in the region. He also drove the firm’s marketing and communication strategy for BlackRock and iShares in Asia Pacific. Damien joined BlackRock in July 2011 from Fidelity International, where he was Head of Marketing Initiatives for the Asia-Pacific. At Fidelity, he held senior marketing roles in Europe before relocating to Hong Kong in mid-2006. Prior to Fidelity, he held senior product and international marketing positions in London with Egg Invest, Zurich International and Prudential.

Damien earned a combined BSc and diploma in Property Economics from the Dublin Institute of Technology and Trinity College, Dublin and a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from the University of Limerick.
